Obituary for Patricia Jo Penington
Patricia Jo Penington, age 83, a lifelong resident of Harmon County, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
Pat was born in Hollis on January 17, 1936 to her parents Edgar Mose Byrd and Althea Ross (Tabor) Byrd. Growing up in Harmon County, Pat graduated from Ron High School Class of 1954. Soon after high school Pat married the love of her life Dayle Penington on November 6, 1954 at the Dryden Church and they have enjoyed over 64 years of marriage together. As a young family Pat took care of her home and then went to Nursing School at the Memphis, Texas Hospital. She graduated on a Saturday night and went to work on Monday for the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Hollis where she worked for 20 years and retired as the Director of Nursing.
Pat spent many years traveling for the work of our Lord. She was a valued member of both medical and evangelistic teams to Africa, Delhi, LA, the Island of St. Kitts, twice to Guatemala and five times to El Salvador. Even though she eventually quit traveling, she never left mission work and considered SW Oklahoma and North Texas her mission field. She had a very real burden for this area and joined in many prayer groups in intercession. Most recently she held the role of Harmon County leader for the OK Concert of Prayer. Everyone who knew Pat understood her to be the ultimate prayer warrior. The other great love of her life, after her Lord and her husband, was her family. She never missed an opportunity to be with her grandchildren and considered them to be her most important ministry.
Preceded in death by her parents; and her brother-in-law, Bill Bilbrey; Pat is survived by her husband Dayle Penington of their home; her son Jimmy Dayle "J.D." Penington and his wife Beth of Hollis; two granddaughters, Kimberly Dugger and her husband Michael of Hollis; and Charity Martin and her husband Clayton of Altus; four great-grandchildren, Heather, Abby, and Dexter; and Claire; sister-in-law, Gayle Bilbrey of Amarillo; her caregiver and friend, Carolyn Abla; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, other family members and many friends.
