Obituary for Patsy Harlene Goucher
Patsy Harlene Beavers Goucher passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012 after a five-year battle with cancer. Patsy was born September 11, 1935 in Blair, Oklahoma to Cleo Zumbro and Sam Beavers. She attended elementary school in Blair and was a 1954 graduate of Altus High School. In high school, Patsy enjoyed a large group of friends and was active in K.A.Y. Klub. She went on to Oklahoma State University and obtained a degree in education. Patsy began her career as a kindergarten teacher at Olustee, Oklahoma where she taught for two years. She then moved to Wilson Elementary School in Altus, Oklahoma where she taught hundreds of third graders for 27 years. She will be remembered for her beautiful handwriting skills, which she passed on to her students. Many of her students fondly referred to her as Mrs. "Groucher".
Patsy married Winfred Arnold Goucher on October 10, 1959 at the First Baptist Church in Altus, Oklahoma. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary there on October 10, 2009. Patsy and Arnold enjoyed everything together, particularly square dancing with many friends and traveling around the country in their R.V.
Her parents, Cleo and Sam Beavers, preceded Patsy in death. She is survived by her husband, Arnold, of the home in Altus, Oklahoma; her sister, Neta Walker and husband Nolan of Blair, Oklahoma; her niece, Renee' Gunkel and husband Mickey of Altus, Oklahoma along with their children, Preston and Dalton; and her brothers-in-law, Don Goucher, Bill Goucher, and wife, Etta all of El Reno, Oklahoma.
Services for Patsy Goucher will be on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church in Altus, Oklahoma officiated by Dr. Jeff Moore. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
