Obituary for Pauline Grimes
Funeral Services for Pauline Grimes, age 71, longtime Altus educator, who died Monday in the Jackson County Memorial Hospital, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 23, 1994 at the Presbyterian Church. Grant Grovers will officiate. Burial will follow at the Hess Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Mrs. Grimes was born April 21, 1922 in Wapanucka, OK to pioneer parents, Weston and Mary Jane Fields. She married Carl Grimes in 1945 at Hess, OK. Mrs. Grimes served and taught in the public schools of America for 39 years. She taught elementary education at Porter High School, Humphreys, Southside and retired from Altus Public School System after teaching 18 years at Roosevelt Elementary. She was a graduate of Altus Jr. College with an Associate of Arts Degree, a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Southwestern State in July of 1954 and a Master of Teaching Degree from Southwestern State in July of 1958. She was active in the Jackson County 4-H youth programs and FHA school programs. Mrs. Grimes was a lifelong member of the Hess Baptist Church. She was a member of the Elmer Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Oklahoma Education Associations.
She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Carlton and Rebekah Grimes of Altus; one grandchild, Joshua Grimes of Altus; four sisters, Evelyn Christensen of Glendale, CA, Doris Chavez of Grapevine, TX Nellie Word of Colorado City, TX and Vaneta Fields of Amarillo, TX; three brothers, Dewitt Fields of Kodiak Island, Alaska, Duncan Fields of Ridgefield, WA and Wallace Fields of Tracy, CA.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Carl Grimes, 6-8-1993; her parents; two brothers, Cuyler and Olen Fields.
