Peggy LaRue Pence, age 81 of Hydro, OK formerly of Granite, OK passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 18th, 2018.
Peggy was born along with her twin sister Patsy on August 14, 1936 in Vinson, OK to Walter Lee Freeze and Virginia Chambers Freeze.
She attended and graduated from Vinson Public School in 1955 and that same year married the love of her life Max Pence. Peggy was working with her in-laws in the Laundry Mat when she decided she wanted to become a teacher. Her and Lyndon moved to Weatherford where she lived through the week. She earned her BS of Education and began her teaching career in Altus. 2 years later she began teaching at Granite Public School and remained there her entire career. Peggy later returned to SWOSU and earned not only her Master's in Counseling but in Administration as well. Peggy worked hard to obtain her education and was passionate about passing on the importance of education to her students. Peggy wore many hats while at Granite Public School…teacher, counselor, librarian, friend, mentor, and principal, to name a few. She truly loved the children in Granite and expected each one of them to be successful.
Peggy was deeply rooted in her love of the Lord. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was active in many capacities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Pence of 48 years. Her parents, Walter and Virginia Freeze, twin sister Patsy Smith, her brother Wendell Freeze and wife Beth, and brother Lee Freeze. Sister- In-Law Joy (Pence) Bilbrey and husband Lowell.
Peggy is survived by her children Lyndon Pence and wife Janet, Mitzi Dissmore and husband Chris. Seven grandchildren, Rachel Pence, Cory Pence and wife Janie, Grace Pence, Vivian Pence, Carly Pence, Jettah Dissmore, and Tamber Dissmore. One great grandchild Max Pence. Brothers Ed Freeze and wife Carolyn, Ron Freeze and wife Jerene. Brother-in - Law Kent Pence and wife Daliese. Numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Peggy's name to the: "Granite Educational Enrichment Foundation" in c/o Granite Public School, PO Box 98, Granite Oklahoma, 73547.
Viewing hours will be from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Greer Funeral Home in Granite and from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Greer Funeral Home in Granite.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Greer Funeral Home in Granite.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Granite School Auditorium in Granite. Interment will follow at the Cave Creek Cemetery in Vinson, Oklahoma under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, Granite, Oklahoma.
