Obituary for Peggy R Kite
Peggy Kite, 97, of Hollis, Oklahoma passed from this life on Sunday, September 25, 2022. Peggy was born on January 2, 1925 to Jesse Benton Richardson and Velma Lee Whisenant Richardson. Peggy, an only child, expanded her family by marrying Leo Hardy Kite, who was one of eight siblings, on December 25, 1949. This union flourished to bring about two lovely daughters, two grandsons, five great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. They also enjoyed the company of a tribe of nieces and nephews who would often gather to celebrate family. Peggy and Hardy lived in Harmon County their entire married lives.

Peggy attended Oklahoma Baptist University and Oklahoma A&M College after graduating from Hollis High School. She earned an emergency teaching certificate during the war and taught at Westview School. She also worked at the Harmon County Co-op and the telephone company. However, most knew Peggy for her 28-year tenure at the Great Plains National Bank. She was a loyal employee and even went back to school to become a Certified Real Estate Appraiser late in her working life.

Peggy was an ambassador for the arts. If you were within her circle of influence, you were given ample opportunity to learn and appreciate many forms of art. She enjoyed painting, dancing, stained glass, China painting, ceramics, photography and listening to classical music. Her favorite getaway was to enjoy the rich culture of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was also a skilled homemaker. Cooking, sewing, canning and gardening were among her varied skills.

Peggy was a charter member of the 1951 Sorosis Club. The club was a foundation for fundraising that benefitted Hollis and Hollis Schools. They began the tried-and-true tradition that is Miss Harmon County and she enjoyed promoting the city of Hollis and Hollis youth to the world. She was also a major contributor to Harmon County History Book III where she submitted the history of many of her relatives. Peggy was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Peggy was known by her family for her enthusiastic preparation of every holiday celebration. Holidays were filled with anticipation and beautiful memories that they will enjoy for their lifetimes. Her family knew and knows that they were well-loved. She was a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ and taught Sunday School when her girls were growing up at the First Baptist Church of Hollis.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Velma Richardson, and her husband, Hardy Kite. She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Dill and husband Bill of Hollis, and Kathy Kite of Norman; grandsons, Jeff Dill and wife Kristi of Hollis, and Craig Dill and wife April of Duke; great grandchildren, Jared Dill and wife Lynlee of Spearman, TX, Rebecca Chambless and husband Garret of Duke; Blakely Dill, Bryson Dill and Brock Dill of Duke; and great great grandchildren, Conrad and Corbin Chambless, and Darci and Jay Dill.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions to be made to the Fairmount Cemetery, c/o the City of Hollis.

Services are under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
