Peter C. Baartman, age 72, of Altus, passed away on Wednesday, April, 2007, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Pete was born on May 27, 1934, to Peter Jr. and Sadie (Mollema) Baartman
at Middleburg, Iowa. On November (, 1956, he married the love of his life, Shirley Mae Slykhuis, and they were married fifty wonderful years before his death. In 1969m the Baartmans moved to Altus form New Jersey while Pete was in the United States Air Force. In 1975, Pete retired and went to work for Altus Electric as an electrician. He later purchased the business and continued working until his death.
Fishing and bowling were some of Pete's pastime activities, but his favorite thing to do was spend time with his children and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Johnathon Baartman in 2006, he is survived by his wife Shirley, of the home; five children, Les
Baartman, Lyle Baartman, Lorin Baartman, Lynne Meyer and husband Pat
and Leanna McKee all of Altus; twelve grandchildren, Jamie Anthony, Joey Hixson and wife Lisa, Brandon Baartman, Jeremiah Baartman and wife Angel, Christian Baartman, Rhonda Meyers, Stevie McKee, Halen McKee of Altus, Tyler Baartman, Jennifer Baartman of Hawaii, Jennifer Shay and Rachelle Meyer of Stillwater; eight great grandchildren, Cameron Gonzalez of Cache, Josiah Baartman, of Hawaii, Mark Anthony, JaLyn Anthony, Kaden Baartman, Konner Baartman, Ayshlei Huerta and Jovan Bostic of Altus; three sisters, Carina Rozeboom of Sheldon, Iowa, Eleanor Grover of Sheldon, Iowa and Gloria VanOort and husband Harv of Sanborn, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services for Pete Baartman will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. David Player officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends from 6 until 7:30 on Friday, April 20, 2007 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
