Obituary for Ralph Dean Mitchell
MITCHELL
Ralph Dean Mitchell, age 82, of Mangum, passed away Thursday morning, April 7, 2011, at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Mr. Mitchell was born on April 9, 1928, to Elmer and Mary (Reynolds) Mitchell, three miles East of Vinson on his Grandpa"s farm. Ralph attended school at Vinson and was the only child of this union. He married Juanita (Doll) Francis on January 26, 1946 in Shamrock, Texas. They lived in Harmon County until 1956, and then moved to Reed, in Greer County. Together they farmed cotton, wheat and raised cattle and hogs. Ralph served on the Reed Gin Board, FHA and his Church board. In February 1988, Ralph had an auction and sold all his farming equipment and their home. He began ranching and enjoyed working and feeding his cattle. In July 1988, he and Doll moved to Mangum. Ralph was a faithful member of the United Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed singing with his dad, Elmer Mitchell and Rev. Alex Bentley. They sang as a trio on the radio and for many funerals. Ralph worked hard on his farms, but always found time to care for his family, his parents and three aunts and uncles that had no children. So when in need, he was there to always help with doctor visits, at the hospital and nursing home. In his spare time he loved being with his grandchildren and going to Branson, Missouri. His health began to fail over the last six years and he wasn"t able to travel.
Preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Gayla Ann, in 1950, he is survived by his wife, Doll, of sixty-five years; two children, David Mitchell and wife Benita of Live Oak Florida and Starla Fogle and husband James of Mangum; three grandchildren, Jonathan and Emily Fogle of Mangum and Tyler and Melissa Mitchell of Blair; his step grandchildren, Michael and Alison along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Ralph Mitchell will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the United Pentecostal Church with Pastor David Weber and Pastor Shawn Laughlin officiating. Interment will follow at Cave Creek Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
