Raymond Frederick Massey, Jr., age 62, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013 in Los Angeles, California.
Raymond was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on November 11, 1950, to Raymond and Lucille (Phillips) Massey. Raymond grew up in Richland, Washington and Granite, Oklahoma; graduating from Granite High School in 1969. Raymond attended Oklahoma State University prior to enlisting in the United States Coast Guard in 1970. After years of decorated service, he retired from the Coast Guard in 2001. He then transitioned into a successful career with the United States Forest Service where he worked until retiring in 2012. In his free time Raymond enjoyed wood-working, bead-working, fishing, hiking, traveling and spending time with his family, especially with his beloved wife, Mary. Raymond was a generous friend, a kind brother, a loving son, a wonderful father and a devoted husband who shall be dearly missed.
Raymond is preceded in death by his father, Raymond F. Massey, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his two sons, Braddock Massey and wife, Dr. Sarah Massey, of Des Moines, Iowa and Christopher Massey of Charleston, South Carolina; his mother, Lucille Massey of Granite; his three sisters, Cynthia Edwards of Oklahoma City, Kathleen Faughn of Edmond, and Suzan Phillips of Edmond; his brother, Timothy Massey of Franklin, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be held at 2p.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Granite United Methodist Church, in Granite, with Chris Stinnett officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Granite.
