Obituary for Refugio Garcia
Funeral service for Refugio "Kookie" Garcia, 77, Olustee, Oklahoma will be at the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel, Altus, Oklahoma on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. with Brian Walker officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, September 10, 2015 between 6-8 PM. Burial will be at the Olustee Cemetery, Olustee, Oklahoma.
Mr. Garcia passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 in Altus, Oklahoma.
Refugio, "Kookie" Garcia was born to Pablo and Maria (De La Cruz) Garcia in Robstown, Texas on August 11, 1938. He grew up in Robstown before moving to Olustee in 1957. He married Mary M. Mesa in Altus, Oklahoma on December 13, 1963. Kookie worked as a Foreman for the Oklahoma Cotton Compress until his stroke forced him to retire. He attended the Assembly of God Church, Olustee for many years and enjoyed singing and playing the accordion in his church band. He also liked watching Dallas Cowboy football, monday night wrestling, NASCAR, movies, listening to gospel music and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lucia Mesquias.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Garcia of the home; four daughters, Rose Garcia and husband Frank Pritchard Sr. of Ft. Worth, Maria Garcia of Altus, Kelly Osborn of Altus, Cristina Poolaw of Olustee and ; five grandchildren, Deon, Darius, Frank Jr., Jasmine and Vanessa; a nephew, Richard Lugo and wife Sylvia of Ft. Worth and many other family members and friends.
