Obituary for Richard Barker
Richard Barker, the eighth child of Albert and Eula Mae (Ellingberg) Barker, passed this life on May 11, 2009, at the Oklahoma Veteran"s Center in Ardmore, Oklahoma, at the age of 56.
Richard was born March 21, 1953, in Scranton, Arkansas. He attended the public schools in Altus, Oklahoma and participated in the wrestling and football programs while in school. He was voted Mr. Southeast while attending Southeast School. After completing his education, Richard entered the United States Army and served his country for three years.
Richard moved to California where he met Birdel Cottinham, and they were united in marriage July 17, 1977. To this union, three children were born. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Birdel Barker of Simsboro, Louisiana; five children, Kylee Barker of Natchitoches, Louisiana, Richard T. Barker of Ruston, Louisiana, Kristi Barker of Sacramento, California, Chendra R. Chambers of Altus, Oklahoma, and Cassandra Boyd, also of Altus; nine brothers and sisters, Rose Harris and husband Avon of Childress, Texas, Charles Barker and wife Wanda of Altus, Albert Barker and wife Althea of Oakland, California, Queen Fuller and husband Clarence of Oakland, California, Anna Mays of Riverside, California, Ralph Barker and wife Gwen of Altus, Jerrel Barker of Oakland, California, Linda Walker of Altus, and Glen Barker and wife Cynthia of Oklahoma City; and one granddaughter. Many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive. His parents, Albert and Eula Mae Barker, preceded him in death.
A graveside memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
