Obituary for Richard Busby Perry
Richard Busby Perry, age 71, fought a good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. Hefinally received the call to come on home and be with the Lord on May 24, 2023 at OUMedical Center in Oklahoma City, OK. Richard was born on September 19, 1951 to William Perry and Lillian Pickens in Clinton,OK. He was raised in Mangum. He played football, was named All State Halfback, and graduated from Mangum High School. He attended college at NEO in Miami,Oklahoma where he continued his football career. Upon returning home, he took on a job with Locklear Roofing with whom he worked with for many years. Then he went to work for American Republic Gypsum Company in Duke, OK. He eventually took on a job with the City of Mangum and furthered his career in various departments. He worked in the Sanitation Department, the Water Department, and retired as a Supervisor for the Parks Department.
During his employment with the City of Mangum, Richard wore several different hats working as a police officer, fireman, emergency management, and as a belovedbus driver for the regular school route and for the traveling Mangum football/band/wrestling/cheerleading teams. Richard loved to mention that throughout all of those years driving the bus he never had an accident, never had a flat tire, and never got a speeding ticket.
Richard loved spending time with family and especially his grandbabies Ivory, Ebony, and Jo Jo..Lillian Perry, Ki'yanna Hunter and Jodessa Russell. They loved the trips to the Dollar Store, The Loop, and the Splashpad/Park. In his free time, Richard also loved watching sports and attended as many Mangum sporting events as he could to support Lauryn and his grandchildren. Richard
was a firm believer in the Lord. He was an active member of St. John Zion Baptist Church under the direction of Reverend John Todd. He held a position on the Deacon Board and played the drums. He loved telling everyone he met about the Lord.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents William Perry and Lillian Pickens and his brothers Glen Palmer and Samuel Hunter.
Left to honor Richard's memory is his wife Teresa Perry of the home and 3 biological children, Richard Perry, Jr., Rodney Hunter, and Lauryn York. Sisters and brothers Henry E. Busby, Alvin Pickens, Jr., Edna Lawrence, Melidean Butler, Yvllan Walker, Thelma Thompson, Angela Richardson, and Lisa Bryant. Richard also played a hand in raising several other children throughout his life.
