Obituary for Richard L. Hatfield
Richard L. Hatfield , age 79, of Altus, passed away Sunday, March 8th, 1998 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was born October 12th, 1918 in Hobart, Oklahoma to Carroll and Alice (Gwen) Hatfield.
On August 19, 1938, Richard and Iona Burrows were united in marriage at Roosevelt, OK.
He was a Sergeant with the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed overseas in Okinawa, Guam and the Phillipines. Richard received the Purple Heart and Silver Wreath medals during his service time. He worked 36 years in the commissary at Altus AFB as a butcher and meat market manager. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, and lifetime member of the VFW.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Boyd Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Survivors include: his wife, Iona of the home in Altus; three children, Mary Dittmer and her husband Robert of Fairfax, MN, Helen Allen of Altus, Oklahoma and Carolyn Jackson of Bellevue, NE; one sister, Eldora Hatfield of Altus, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 13 brothers and sisters and three half-sisters.
