Obituary for Rick New
Rick New, age 61, longtime resident of Blair, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022 at his home in Blair.
Rick was born on July 27, 1961in Englewood, Colorado to his parents, Glenn Carl New and Patsy Ann (Brannan) New. Rick grew up in Bailey, Colorado and he graduated class of 1979 from Platte Canyon High School. Shortly after high school on April 8, 1980 Rick enlisted into the United States Air Force. He was trained as an Aerospace Maintenance Specialist and worked as an Aircraft Mechanic. During his tour of duty at Anderson Air Force Base in Guam he met a fellow Airmen, Leora Charlene Link in 1987 and they were married on April 7, 1989 at the Guam Naval Station. During his career in the Air Force Rick was stationed at numerous duty stations and the family landed at Altus Air Force Base, Altus, Oklahoma for Rick's last duty station where he received many distinguished awards and decorations for his service to his country and retired with an honorable discharge with over 20 years of service on April 30, 2000. Not long after his Air Force retirement, Rick went to work for the Federal Civil Service where he continued his work as an Aircraft Mechanic at Altus Air Force Base and he retired in 2021 from Civil Service after more the 20 years of service. Rick was a family man and he enjoyed being at home spending time with them. He really enjoyed working on and racing stock cars at the Altus Race track and in Wichita Falls, Texas. He always enjoyed watching Nascar on TV and he also enjoyed cooking and watching cooking shows. Rick would take the family on fishing trips and hiking trips and a few garage sales and thrift sales. Rick loved his family very much and he served his country and community for over 40 years and he will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by his mother, Patsy New; Rick is survived by his wife Leora New of their home in Blair; his father, Glen New of Colorado; three children, Carly New and fiance Jhett Gilliam of Altus; Corey New and his wife Kara of Altus; and Ricky New, Jr. of Altus; his brother, Gary New and his wife Denise of Wyoming; his sister; Cindy Ackman and her husband Mike of Colorado; four grandchildren, Camron, Kreed, Chloe, and Laiken; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, many other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends at Visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday evening, November 7, 2022 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel in Altus, Oklahoma with Military Honors rendered by the Altus Air Force Base Honors detail.
