RAPER
Rick J. Raper, cherished father, son, brother, uncle and friend passed away suddenly Thursday March 9th 2017 in Altus, OK.
Rick was born in Marysville, CA in 1955, the oldest son of parents Carolyn Hawkins and Charles Raper. He spent most of his childhood in Yuba City, CA eventually going on to join the United States Air Force when he turned 18. He served honorably for 22 years as Master Sergeant, specializing as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Superintendent. During that time he traveled to various places like Germany, the Philippines and Japan. After he retired from the USAF in 1996 he worked in Civil Service for 19 years and eventually retired in 2015. During the 80's he proudly fathered two children. He enjoyed various hobbies from gardening to his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Rick was very stoic and was held in high regard by everyone who knew him. His reserved nature, vibrant sense of humor and strong intellect will be greatly missed. Rick's spirit and charm will live forever with those who had the privilege of knowing him. I think what my dad would have observed about his life is that, hardly anything matters except to say that he was grateful to be him, to have lived when he did and been an American, to have been allowed to be a father to his children and grandfather to a loving granddaughter, and to have known all his friends.
Survived by his parents: Charles Raper & Shirley Raper, Carolyn Hawkins & Bill Hawkins. His son and his wife and granddaughter Rickey Raper, Chirel Raper & Jade Raper. His daughter Elizabeth Raper. His brother Roger Raper and his nephews Joe, Jeremey & Bobby.
A celebration of his life will be held in Altus on Saturday March 18th at 2pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home 1100 E. Tamarack Rd. Altus, OK 7352 with Pastor David Stewart officiating. The service can also be viewed live online at Lowell-Tims.com.
