Obituary for Rickey Lynn Whitfield
Ricky Lynn Whitfield, age sixty-two, a longtime resident of Hollis, Oklahoma, and former resident of Fort Worth, Texas passed away at his home on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
Ricky was born in Fort Worth, Texas on March 4, 1961, to Charles Mason Whitfield and Mary Katherine (Bishop) Whitfield. He was raised and educated in Hollis, Oklahoma. During high school, Ricky played football for the Hollis Tigers and was known as an incredible defense lineman. He also played basketball, Ricky was never known for his speed, or shooting skills but was the man to call upon when a foul was needed. He earned the nickname "Hook" during his formative years. In 1980 Ricky graduated from Hollis High School. Upon graduation, Ricky attended college at Weatherford. In the Summer of 1988, Rickey married Karen Denise (Bell) Whitfield in Hollis, Oklahoma. The Whitfield family made their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1992, Ricky and Karen moved to Fort Worth to closer to family and for a job at Doskocil MFG. He worked as a forklift operator before an accident took Ricky's career from him. Even during this time, Ricky kept his smile, laugh, and the sparkle in his eye.
Ricky had a magnetic personality, that drew friends in and kept family close. Ricky loved his family with all his heart and soul. He had an incredible bond with his grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He found profound enjoyment by being the life of the party and enjoyed telling jokes and cutting up with his friends. He enjoyed all the countless hours hanging out with his friends on Hollis Street. Few people know that Ricky had an addiction to QVC and bought tons of gadgets and trinkets to share with his family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening, smoking BBQ, cruising in one of his Cadillacs, and he truly lived to entertain his kids and grandkids. A huge goal of Ricky was to leave everyone he encountered with a laugh and smile. He truly brought laughter and light into so many people's lives.
Ricky was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and was brought up in the word of God. From a young age he attended Victory Temple in Wellington, Texas, and since 2012 was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
His legacy is that of love, laughter, family, and devotion to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Ricky was received in heaven by his father, Charles Mason; Mother, Mary (Bishop) Whitfield; grandparents, Enix and Sally Bishop, nephew, Ray "Rat" Shrubs, and niece, Agatha Bell.
Left to Honor Ricky legacy are his four daughters, Tia Denise Bell, Alexus Danielle Whitefield, Porsche Bell, Annissa Whitfield; siblings, Sandra Callins and husband Pokey, Debra Johnson and husband Herbie, Charles Whitfield, and Sonja Fox and husband Darren; grandchildren, Iyanna Seals, Karma Bell, Halo Bell, Quincy Whitfield; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
The Whitfield family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2023, at Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
A Homegoing celebration will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church, Hollis, Oklahoma, interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery where Ricky will be laid to rest next to his beloved Mother.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
