Robert Allen Hart, 80, passed away Friday morning, January 24, 2014, at Mercy Hospital, in Oklahoma City.
Bob Hart was born in Norwood, New York, on January 6, 1934, to William and Mildred (Andrew) Hart. He graduated high school from Norwood. Bob attended the University of Vermont before joining the United States Air Force in 1955. Bob traveled to England and Europe early in his enlistment. He married Helen Gable, of Mangum, OK, January 15, 1960, while stationed at Altus AFB. Before retiring from the Air Force in 1976, Bob moved from Barksdale AFB to ROTC at the University of Oklahoma to Pakistan to Kelly AFB, in San Antonio to ROTC at the University of Massachusetts, in Northampton, to his final COS, Altus AFB. Following his military retirement, Bob quickly stepped into Oklahoma Employment Service's Altus office as an employment counselor. Bob retired as the employment office's manager in 1996. To fulfill the desire to help others, Bob volunteered at Altus AFB, starting the Retirees Activities Newsletter, he volunteered at Jackson County Hospital, assisting in the snack bar, and before leaving Altus, he and Helen worked at the Southwest Technology Center at its reception desk. They moved to Edmond in 2006. Bob and Helen continued to volunteer at Integris Baptist Hospital, helping with patient services.
Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen, their daughter Sherri and son Jeff, and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2014, at Quail Springs UMC, in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made, in memory of Bob Hart, to Mercy Hospice, 4401 W. Memorial Rd., OKC 73134.
Bob will be inurned at Ft. Sill National Cemetery at a later date. Cremation services have been entrusted to Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
