Obituary for Robert Donald Perkins
PERKINS
Dr. Robert Donald Perkins, D.V.M., age 80, of Duncan, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 28, 2009, at his son"s home in Elmer, Oklahoma.
Dr. Perkins was born on March 15, 1929, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Bill and Leo (Pippin) Perkins. After graduating from Shawnee in 1947, he attended the University of Oklahoma for two and one-half years, studying business administration, before deciding to move back to Shawnee and work with his father at Perkins-Cook Motors. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in several locations for three years. Returning to Shawnee, he worked for his father as a mechanic installing air conditioning units before deciding to go back to school to become a veterinarian. On April 27, 1957, he married Betty Lou Cox, the love of his life, and they spent the next fifty-two wonderful years together before his death. Practicing in Wichita, Kansas for about a year and a half, he moved to Tahlequah and two years later he moved his family to Duncan where he established his veterinarian practice that lasted until his retirement in 2004. Dr. Perkins was an avid reader and loved studying anything to do with birds. He enjoyed painting, classical music, jazz and in his later years, he wrote his personal memoirs.
Preceded in death by his parents and one great grandson, Joshua Clay Perkins, Dr. Perkins is survived by his wife, Betty; seven children, Patricia Sue Perkins of Oklahoma City, Vanessa Ann Taylor and husband Ed of Ada, Robert Duane Perkins of Duncan, Krystal Lee French of St. Petersburg, Florida, Pamela Kay Perkins of Sherman, Texas, Cynthia Jo Perkins of Elmer, Oklahoma and Bill Perkins and wife Kathy of Elmer, Oklahoma; one sister, Virginia Ibarra of New Jersey; twelve grandchildren, Bill, Brandon, Mason, Susan, Robbi, Cody, Christopher, Matthew, Joshua, Daniel, Tyler and Megan; four great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services for Dr. Robert Perkins will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at the Eastside Church of Christ in Duncan, officiated by Ron Stough. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory of Altus.
