Obituary for Robert Homer Barclay
Robert "Bob" Homer Barclay, Jr. 77, resident of Altus, Oklahoma passed away June 13, 2019, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma.
Bob was born October 6, 1941, to Robert Homer Barclay, Sr. and Mary (Snow) Barclay in Springfield, Ohio. He was raised and educated by his Stepfather Donald Wood and Mother Mary Wood in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Bob graduated high school from Tecumseh High School near New Carlisle, Ohio. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country proudly for twenty-two years. He started his career in the Air Force as a security specialist but changed his focus to air traffic control. During his military career, he served in England, Taiwan and served two tours in Vietnam. He also served in Missouri, California, and Hawaii.
Bob retired November 30, 1979, as a Master Sergeant at Altus Air Force base. On June 9, 1961, he married Linda Barclay at Highland Methodist in Altus, Oklahoma. This marriage was blessed with three children Wayne, Sheila, and Bonnie.
When he retired from the Military he managed the Barnes Thoroughbred Horse Stables, later on he worked as a dispatcher for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, then he transferred to become a Driver License Examiner, but the job that he found the most passion in was being an Oklahoma Park Ranger.
He was a long time member of Highland Methodist Church in Altus, Oklahoma. In his free time, he was a Freemason, in the Sam's Club, and a member of the Arbor Bay Foundation. Bob enjoyed camping being outdoors, but most of all he loved being around his wife, children and grandchildren.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of fifty-eight years; Linda Barclay, Son; Wayne Barclay of Murdock, Kansas; Daughters; Sheila Lara and husband David of Altus, Oklahoma, Bonnie Green and husband John of Murdock Kansas. eight grandchildren; Linda Lara, David Lee Lara, Ryan Day, Jared Day, Megan Green, Caleb Barclay, Joshua Barclay, and Devon Barclay; Great Grandchildren; Charles Lara, Virginia Wallace, Maria Ramirez, Kambry Day, Kade Day, step-great-granddaughter Samantha, and one great grand son on the way. Also surviving Bob is numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends from across the country.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert H. Barclay, Sr. , Mother, Mary Wood, stepfather Donald Wood, brother Jimmy Woods.
The Barclay family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2019, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery, Altus, Oklahoma.
