Obituary for Roger Joseph Brown
Funeral services for Roger Joseph Brown, 100, are scheduled for Monday, February 3, 1997 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Altus. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery. Rev Keith Wiginton and Troy Chapman will officiate. Mr. Brown passed away at the local hospital on January 31. Roger was born November 8, 1896 in Barnesville, Georgia to John and Eunice (Dumas) Brown. With his family, Roger, moved to this area in 1912. Mr. Brown was a veteran o WRI serving in the Army during 1918. On August 1, 1920 Roger married Loris Williams in Tipton. Roger was a member of the First Baptist Church, and the Yeldell Masonic Lodge. Roger served on the Southside School Board for many years, as well as served as a Jackson County Commissioner from 1952 until 1979. Lowell-Tims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include children Theo Dale Brown of Crescent, Oklahoma; J.R. "Buster" Brown of Crescent, Oklahoma; Virginia Blackstone of Altus, Oklahoma; William Ernest Brown of Harrold, Texas; Calvin Brown of Elmer, Oklahoma; brother, Jess Brown of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great great grandchldren.
Preceded in death by parents, wife 3 sisters, Vallie Stine, Effie Newell, Johnnie Doughty, 4 brothers; Wade, Lynn, Mike, and Frank Brown.
