Ronald "Leon" James
August 3, 1942 - December 11, 2024Ronald "Leon" James, 82, of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Leon was born on August 3, 1942, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Earnest Leon "Cotton" and Nettie Mae "Sug" James. He graduated from Altus High School in 1960 and continued his education at Altus Junior College, earning his associate's degree in business.
On January 6, 1964, Leon married his high school sweetheart, Donna Ree McSpadden. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, faith, and family, raising three sons: Steve, Robbie, and Kyle.
A devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Altus from a young age, Leon took great joy in his Sunday morning Bible class. Known for his tireless work ethic, Leon spent much of his life behind the wheel of a truck or working on it at home. On weekends, he could be found at the lake with his family, fishing, skiing, or on the dance floor enjoying live western swing music.
Though Leon was proud of his sons and grandchildren, his greatest joy was his great-grandchildren. He cherished attending their events and games, always cheering them on with pride and love.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Evelyn Lucich; and brother-in-law, Benny; and his daughter-in-law, Kathy.
He is survived by Donna; his sons, Steve and wife, Wendy, of Quanah, Robbie of Snyder, and Kyle and wife, Sheryl, of Altus; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Jonna Cox (Bradley), Michele Betts (Garrett), Kelsey Thompson (Marc), Ryan James (Kelli), Cody James (Kristen), Casey James (Lacey), KJ James (Kristen), and Kylee Thompson (Colton); 22 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; and countless friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Leon's legacy of love, hard work, and devotion will live on through all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the funeral home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2s:00 PM Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the care of the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
