Obituary for Ronald LeRoy Snyder
Ronald "Ron" Snyder, age 77 of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
Ron was born in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania on January 24, 1940 to his parents Adam and Katheryn (Basehore) Snyder. He grew up in Hershey, Pennsylvania where he graduated high school. Shortly after high school Ron enlisted into the United States Air Force where he served his country for 27 and half years with two tours in Vietnam. As a young airman, Ron met Jewell Atherton and they were married on July 6, 1959 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
As a new family they were stationed at many Air Force Bases throughout the years and in 1971 they landed at Altus Air Force Base where Ron"s duty assignment was a C5 Flight Engineer. Ron served over 16 years continuously at Altus Air Force Base and retired in 1985 with an honorable discharge attaining the Rank of Chief Master Sergeant with numerous awards and decorations. The day after retiring from the Air Force Ron started work in flight safety as simulator specialist and continued working at Altus Air Force Base another 18 years until he retired in 2003. In his younger years he enjoyed tinkering on cars and he could always fix anything.
Ron enjoyed the outdoors and going camping and hiking with his grandchildren and he always enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren"s sporting events. Ron served his country and community, he loved his family and always treasured time spent with them and he will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sylvia Snyder; Ron is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Jewell Snyder of the home; his two daughters, Sheryl Mease and husband John of Yukon, Oklahoma; and Ronna Cross and husband Greg of Altus; two sons, Kevin Snyder and wife Liza of Choctaw, Oklahoma; and Scott Snyder of Altus; three sisters, Joyce Hoover and husband Sheldon of Hershey, Pennsylvania; Lois Brubaker of Palmyra, Pennsylvania; and Gloria Pavone of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Shay Mease of Altus; and Jordan Mease of Dallas; Kyle and Keith Snyder both of Choctaw, Oklahoma; Nathan, Kalee, and Kasey Cross all of Altus; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel in Altus with Military Honors rendered by the Altus Air Force Base Honors Detail.
