Obituary for Rosa Mae Adams
The angels surely smiled when this kind and gentle woman left this earth to be with them. Rosa Mae Adams left us on Friday, January 9, 2009, at the age of 87. She passed away at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Hollis.
She was born February 25, 1921, to Claude and Willie (Bradshaw) McElroy. She lived in Gould, Oklahoma, until she graduated from Gould High School in l941. She married William Edward Adams on May 2, l942, and moved to Altus. In l948, she moved to Oklahoma City for three years before returning to Altus in l951.
Rosa was employed by the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in l952. She retired from that company in 1978 when the office in Altus was closed. Rosa loved her job and considered the time she worked for this company some of the best years of her life. After retirement, she remained in contact with her fellow Southwest Bell Telephone Company employees and life-long friends through their weekly luncheon meetings for many years.
While she was able, Rosa enjoyed quilting in her spare time and has left many treasured, beautiful quilts to all of her family and many friends. She also enjoyed traveling with her church group. Her favorite trip was to the Holy Lands.
She was a devout Christian and member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. She was a very faithful member her entire adult life until she became ill in August of 2000. At this time, she moved to Tamarack Assisted Living Center where she lived until June 2004 when she moved to the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Hollis, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan McSwain and son-in-law, Rick McSwain of Morrison, Oklahoma, one son Gary Adams and daughter-in-law, Ethelene Adams of Houston Texas, grandchildren Kim Hansen and husband Kyle and their children, Morgan and Zachary of Edmond, David McSwain and wife April and their son Nathan of Stillwater, in addition to Shane Adams and wife Kristi, and children Dyllan James and Aidan of Howell, New Jersey, Kathy Davis and children Miles and Kelsey of Altus, Oklahoma, Aaron Hansen and wife Cecelia and children Jacob and Lonnie of Kansas City, and many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law and best friend, Doris McElroy. The family would like to thank Doris for her unwavering companionship to Rosa while she resided at Tamarack Assisted Living Center and Colonial Manor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Zane Ellen Hansen, her parents, and her brothers, Coy, Delbert, and Sammy McElroy, and two grandchildren Donald Hansen and Zachary Adams.
Her family would like to extend a special thanks to the employees of Colonial Manor where she resided for the past four and a half years for their constant loving care and support.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2009, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Tom Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Altus under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
