Ruth Ann Kizziar Obituary

The Lord called home Ruth Ann Kizziar, 81, on the evening of January 1, 2017. Born January 30, 1935, in Hobbs, NM, Ruth was the daughter of Virgie and Charlie Hoppe. The family moved to Oklahoma during Ruth"s high school years, during which time she was a cheerleader and was known for her beautiful voice, holding the lead in the high school musical as Annie in "Annie Get Your Gun." After attending the University of Oklahoma, Ruth returned to Altus and worked as a legal secretary at a local law firm.
Ruth soon met the love of her life Don Kizziar. They were united in marriage at First Baptist Church on March 31, 1956, and together they shared fifty-five years of marriage. Over these years Ruth and Don built a home and raised their two daughters, who were Ruth"s most treasured gifts. Ruth always had a way of making you feel like the most important person in the room. In Ruth"s presence, you never doubted you were completely loved and accepted. She is remembered as the kind of lady who could always put a smile on your face and the faithful friend who would never forget to send a thoughtful note of encouragement when you needed it most. Ruth served the Lord with all her heart. Armed with a "glass half full" perspective, Ruth never complained and always chose to see the best in people. Her sincere and unconditional love for others served as a true illustration of her sweet spirit and kind heart.
Ruth enjoyed sharing in many hobbies together with her beloved husband, evidenced by their extensive collections of antique cars and model trains. She particularly cherished their annual Christmas train show, a tradition continued for over twenty-five years and which still lives on today through her grandchildren. Another of their unique traditions, Ruth and Don took an annual Christmas card photo with their grandchildren in front of one of their classic cars. All who knew Ruth fondly remember her flair for organization. According to Ruth, everything had a proper place, and even better if labeled and color-coated. Within the community, Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Beta Mothers, Chapter GQ of PEO, children"s Sunday School teacher, dedicated FUMC Country Kitchen volunteer, and even a member of a bowling league in her younger years.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Don Kizziar and her parents, Virgie "Skipper" and Charlie Hoppe. She is survived by her two daughters, Kim Wilmes and husband Jeff of Altus and Barbara Brown and husband Tripp of Chattanooga, TN; five grandchildren, Kirk Wilmes and wife Denise of Altus, Katie Wilmes of Norman, OK, Catherine Choate, Connor Choate and wife Grace, and Huntley Brown of Chattanooga, TN; two great-grandchildren Grayson Wilmes and Hudson Wilmes of Altus; three sisters, Polly Morgan of Oklahoma City, Pat Stearman of Gillette, WY, and Rieta Selberg of Germantown, TN; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Funeral services have been scheduled for Thursday, January 5th at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Altus with The Reverend David Player officiating. Interment will take place at the Altus City Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made in memory of Ruth Ann Kizziar at Country Kitchen First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 502, Altus, OK 73522, or a charity of your choosing.
