Obituary for S. K. Jack Thornton
Samuel Kip (Jack) Thornton was born March 4th, 1921 at Headrick, OK. He died February 11th, 1994. He was the son of Samuel Kip and Ruth Lillian Thornton. He grew up and attended the Headrick School System, having graduated with perfect attendance for 12 years. He married Jessie Mae Marsh in 1940 at Elmer, OK. He moved to Burbank, CA, where he worked for Lockheed Aircraft until 1944, then he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he moved to San Diego, CA. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific. He received the Victory Medal for World War II. He moved back to Headrick following the war where he owned and operated a Service Station for 25 years, then went into the Butane-Propane Business for 20 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Altus, a member of the VFW, the American Legion, Headrick Masonic Lodge, 32nd degree Mason, and a Scottish Rite Mason.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, with Rev. Ken Pate and Elder Hilton Crain officiating. Interment will be in the Navajo Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Survivors include: his wife, Jessie Thornton of Altus, Oklahoma; three children, Kip Thornton and wife Nancy of Headrick, OK, Karen Hope Moore and husband Ron of Altus, Oklahoma and Cheryl Kay Kelly and husband Gary of Cody, Wyoming; one sister, Mignon Guthrie of Norman, OK; nine grandchildren, Jackie Henson, Trebor Thornton, Dean Thornton, Brent Moore, Misti Moore, Jeff Nelson, Joey Nelson, Holly Kelly and Weston Kelly; six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his Father, 1957; his Mother, 1953; a sister, Wilna Wilks, August 3, 1993.
