Obituary for Sam McAskill
Sam McAskill was born Dec 4, 1911 in the Ozark Community. He was the son of the late Charles and Katie Clinkscales McAskill. He died Feb 18, 2004 in Altus.
Sam married Elizabeth Minor, March 11, 1940 in Altus. He served in the United States Army overseas during World War II and was honorably discharged. He was a life long resident of Jackson County. He worked with the Bureau of Reclamation and participated on the lake Altus Lugart project. He attended the First Baptist Church, was a life member of the Elks Club, and was very active member of various farming organizations. He was a farmer and rancher for most of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth McAskill of the home in Altus; 4 children, Jan McAskill of Altus, John McAskill and his wife Bonnie of Altus, Tom McAskill and his wife Denise of Headrick, Oklahoma and Kim McAskill of Panhandle, Texas; five grandchildren, Terri Ann McAskill and her husband James of 29 Palms, California, Tracy Lynn McAskill of Lubbock, Texas, Cody Carl McAskill of Headrick, Oklahoma, John Blake McAskill of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Betsy Lane McAskill of Altus; two great-grandchildren, Kelli Elizabeth Howeth of 29 Palms, California and James Ryan Howeth II also of 29 Palms, California; along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ruth Smerke, and one brother, Bob McAskill.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb 20, 2004 under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
