Sammy Micheal O'Neal, a longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, left his earthly home to join the arms of the Lord on the morning of August 20, 2023, at the age of seventy-five.
On September 12, 1947, in Altus, Oklahoma, Sammy Micheal O'Neal, was born to, Samuel Cooper O’Neal, and Betty Jo O'Neal. Mike was raised and educated in Altus, Oklahoma. Mike participated in football, basketball and baseball and continued to be a true Bulldog fan even after graduating Altus High in 1965. Mike married the love of his life Barbara Wheeler on November 9, 1968, at Washington Street Baptist Church in Hobart, Oklahoma. From their union came many incredible years together and their beautiful children, eventually grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well.
Mike graduated from Central State College with a bachelor's in business administration. After graduation he worked for Oklahoma Employment Security Commission as a field auditor in McAlester Oklahoma. He then became accounting and personnel manager at McAlester Datsun. He later became daily operations manager for Little Olds Cadillac in Clinton Oklahoma. In the early eighties, the O'Neal family moved to Hobart, Oklahoma to open their own dealership, O'Neal Chevrolet- Oldsmobile - Cadillac. Mike started his career at the Department of Human Services in 1989. He started in the child welfare division before finding his calling in Adult Protective Services where he served for over 25 years, retiring in 2014.
Mike was saved at the First Baptist Church of Altus. He loved the Lord and dedicated his heart to him. Mike served on then board of ACME House and Jim Taliferro Mental Health Center along with numerous others. Mike loved to golf and spent many weekends on the golf course with his buddies. Mike enjoyed all sports, but his favorite was watching his grandsons and great grandson play. He also enjoyed watching his nephews' games on the internet. Mike loved his family and took great pride in his daughters and their families. A legacy of love, compassion, and a life dedicated to Jesus Christ is what Mike would want to be remembered for.
Mike is preceded in death by his father Samuel Cooper O'Neal, his grandparents Henry and Dora Sanders and Doll and Martha O'Neal.
Left to honor his memory are his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Barbara O'Neal; mother, Betty Jo Tipton; stepdad, Orley Tipton; daughters, Jennifer Jo LeMay and husband Greg, Amy Michelle Estes and husband Kirk; four grandchildren, Aaron LeMay, Ryan LeMay, Jake Estes, Colton Estes and great grandchild Ayden LeMay Schwartz; brother, Randy O'Neal and wife Lynette; nephews, Tyler, Todd, Trey, Travis, and many other family members and friends.
The O'Neal family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home with Doug Altom officiating. Mike will be laid to rest at Altus City Cemetery, Altus, Oklahoma following the Chapel service.
