Obituary for Shirl Jean Campbell
Shirl Jean Campbell, age 75, longtime resident of Hollis, Oklahoma and formerly of Ft. Worth, Texas, passed away on Friday March 11, 2022 at the Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis.

Shirl was born on July 2, 1946 to her parents Ocel Carroll and Lillie B. Crowder Carroll. Shirl grew up in Dawson, Texas and Hollis, she attended school in Dawson, Texas from 1955 to 1957 until the family moved to Hollis, Oklahoma where she graduated from Arnett School May of 1965. Shortly after high school, Shirl married her one and only love, Joe Ed Campbell, Sr. on February 8, 1968 and they enjoyed over 45 years of marriage together before Joe's death on February 22, 2013. For most of her marriage she was a homemaker until her later years where she worked at the Hollis Head Start as a teacher's aid and as a cook at the Westview Boys Home. Shirl accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on November 22, 1972. She was a faithful member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, Ft. Worth, Texas-Elder R.L. Taylor until she relocated back to Hollis where she was an active member of the Calvary Community Church, Pastor Tyrone Campbell.

Shirl Campbell was known as Mrs. C. around town and she enjoyed picking and shelling peas and fishing. She loved cooking for others and opened her own Barbecue Shack. You could get her BBQ at garage sales, park events, or she would have it delivered to you. Mrs. C. also canned her own jelly from the wild berries she picked herself. The most important part of Shirl's life was the time spent when her friends and family would visit and she always treasured spending time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

Family members greeting Shirl at Heaven's gate were her late husband, Joe Campbell, Sr.; her parents, Ocel Carroll and Lillie B. Crowder Carroll; her brother, Roshone Bell; her sisters, Mary Jane Bell and Ann Lyons; and her granddaughter, Chy'nequa Campbell.

Family members left to honor Shirl's everlasting legacy are her three sons, Joe Campbell, Jr.; Kevin Campbell; and Sedrick Campbell; her daughter, Demetria Campbell; four brothers, Melton Bell, Jr.; Alan Bell; Ernie Bell; and Charles Carroll; five sisters, Janie Land; Merlene Myers; Jessie Means; Karen Whitfield; and Maxine Carroll; five grandchildren, Tamisha Campbell; Chanod Campbell; Kaelin Campbell; Jonathan Campbell; and Saya Campbell; twelve great grandchildren, Kaiden Martin; Kamyri Campbell; Creed Campbell; Caden Campbell; Brantley Campbell; Cindy Campbell; Colette Campbell; Zacharias Furr; ChaNya Campbell; Asiah Peavy; Milagro Campbell; and Malaiah Campbell.
