Obituary for Shirlene Sue Willey
Shirlene Sue Willey, age 86, longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, was released from her earthly bonds Monday, February 14, 2022 at her home in Altus.
Shirlene was born on August 26, 1935 in Altus, Oklahoma to her parents Rudolph and Fern Halve. She grew up in Altus, Oklahoma where she graduated from Altus High School in 1953. During her school years in Altus she was a cheerleader and part of the first Miss Altus Pageant. After one semester at Southwestern Oklahoma State University she married her high school sweetheart Phil Willey on August 15, 1954.
She worked on campus as Phil graduated from the University of Oklahoma and had their first son, David.
While Phil was in dental school in Kansas City, she worked for Sinclair Oil.
They moved back to Altus to start Phil's practice in 1961 and the family grew some more; Steve in '62, Darin in '64, and Brett in '68. While raising four boys and being a part of the great city of Altus, she attended multiple clubs; The Beta Mothers, Round Table at church, Aldonian, and P.E.O. Along with singing in the choir at First Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school class for about 20 years. As a supportive Bulldog she attended not only her sons' activities through their years at Altus High School, but could be seen in the stands as a fan for many years to come.
She was fortunate to have many friends and got to travel to wonderful places around the world. She loved to host parties and the Fourth of July became part of an annual tradition at the Willey cabin as well as the Willey family reunion. Her smile, laughter and love were infectious to all that knew her. She will be truly missed, but is now in the welcoming love of God.
Shirlene was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Fern Halve; Herbert and Verna Willey, her brother, Larry Halve; Bill Willey, Sr.; Tara Willey; Jo, Don, Greg, Karen and Lori Caviness; her son, Steve Willey.
