Obituary for Shirley Ann Gibbs
Shirley Ann Gibbs, a longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the age of 77.
Born on November 26, 1946, in Quinton, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Thomas Marvin Fouts and Iva May Bray Fouts. During her early years, the family moved to California before settling in Elmer, Oklahoma. Shirley was raised and educated in the Elmer school system, graduating from Southside High School.
On August 14, 1965, Shirley married Dallas Gibbs, a young airman stationed in Altus. Their life together took them around the world, with postings in Greece, Spain, Germany, Turkey, and finally back to Altus in 1977. In her professional life, Shirley worked as the Activities Director at English Village Manor from 1985 until 2011, after which she continued to serve the residents by doing hair three days a week. She cherished her time there, pouring love and care into the lives of the residents she served.
Family was central to Shirley's life. She was a devoted mother, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy, bringing her immense happiness as she loved spoiling them. In her leisure time, Shirley enjoyed playing bingo, collecting historical Coca-Cola memorabilia, and playing cards with her family.
A faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Shirley was a proud member of the Altus Church of God. She found great joy in reading her Bible and helping others in her community.
Shirley leaves a legacy of love and devotion to her family her friends, and all who knew her.
She was received in heaven by her father, Thomas Marvin Fouts, her brother, Marvin Fouts; Father in laws, Elam Columbus Gibbs, mother in law, Wilma Faye (Cooper) Gibbs,
her husband of fifty-eight years Dallas Gibbs.
Left to honor her memory are her mother, Iva May Bray Coffman a daughter, Crystal Kennelly and husband, Michael; a son, Matthew Gibbs, and wife, Tiffany; four grandchildren, Ryan McLeod and wife, Tiffany; Alexus, Arissa, and Alissa Gibbs; a great-granddaughter, Jordyn McLeod; three sisters, Patsy Fouts, Brenda Rea and husband, Joe, and Joan Barbee; a brother, Steve Fouts and wife, Nina two sisters in laws, Janet Lager and husband, Pete, and Ann Julian and husband, Stephen; a bonus daughter Janet McDonald and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Gibbs family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 30, 2024, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
