She was a member of the 101st Airborne Division as well as served in operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. She proudly served her country until retiring on October 10, 1991.

Shirley had an incredible passion for three-gun shooting. She traveled all over and competed in numerous competitions. She relished in the competitiveness of the sport but also the camaraderie found between the participants. Playing Battlefield was also a favorite pastime. It was while playing this game Shirley met the love of her life, Christopher Finley. They would often stay up late playing together and talking all night long. They were friends for fifteen years before uniting in marriage on October 25, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they started their blended family, she opened her heart and home to his two children and loved them as if they were her own. They made their home in Altus, Oklahoma where they created many everlasting memories. Shirley loved to spend her time outdoors, especially with her two dogs Willow and Angel.
