Obituary for Shirley Mae Tacke
Shirley Tacke, age 87, longtime resident of Mangum, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the Mangum Skilled Care and Therapy Center.
Shirley was born on September 29, 1934 in La Tour, Missouri to her parents Bruce Elwell and Pauline (Reed) Overfield. Shirley was raised in the Montserrat, Missouri area and graduated class of 1952 from College High School in Warrensburg, Missouri. Shortly after high school Shirley married Charles Tacke on August 22, 1952 in Huntsville, Arkansas. As a young married couple, they settled in Kansas City, Missouri before moving to California in 1962, then they moved back to Missouri and then to Kansas and they finally moved to Mangum, Oklahoma in 1975 where they have resided for many years. Throughout her early years she helped work the family Dairy Farm in Kansas and she worked in food service in several places including;
Effie Thompson's Diary Queen in Mangum and at Bratton's Drug in Mangum until she retired to take care of her husband Charles. Shirley was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mangum where she enjoyed going to church on Sundays and helping the ladies with funeral meals. Shirley also enjoyed helping make cakes to bring to the Mangum Nursing Home. Shirley loved watching sports, especially Nascar races,
Oklahoma City Thunder games, and her soap operas. Shirley loved her family dearly and she always
enjoyed talking on the phone with them.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband of almost 48 years, Charles Tacke in 2000; her son, Leon Tacke in 2020; Shirley is survived by her daughter, Nanette Call and her husband Gary of Stillwater, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Melissa Tacke;
as well as many other family members and friends.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Riverside Cemetery in Mangum with Reverend Rocky Repp officiating.
