Obituary for Shirley Weaver

Shirley Weaver, a cherished resident of Altus, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on July 10,

2024 with her family by her side.

Born on January 8, 1935, in the county of Buckinghamshire, England. Shirley was the daughter

of Walter Ratcliffe and Lillian Kent Ratcliffe. She spent her formative years in England, being

crowned Miss Bradwell as a young lady. After high school, she spent her summers working at

Butlin’s Holiday Camps. She enjoyed working for the camp and spending her off-hours on the

beach with friends. She was a hard worker and returned to London during the off-season,

sharing a flat with friends while working at local restaurants. It was through mutual friends that

she met Bob Wuthnow, a young service member from America. They married on January 19,

with a daughter, prior to their eventual separation.

Shirley met Bill Weaver and their love led to marriage in San Antonio, Texas on February 23,

1968. The Weavers blended their two families. In October 1969, the Weaver family settled in

Altus, Oklahoma. Four years later, on a rainy Friday the 13 th , they welcomed a son. Shirley

began working at Altus Air Force Base at the Officer’s Club, where her attention to detail and

dedication eventually led her to become the Human Resources Officer, from which she retired in

1998. Beyond her career, Shirley enjoyed watching all the major tennis events, especially

Wimbledon. She also had a genuine passion for bingo. But her favorite hobby by far was

watching her grandkids sporting events, at home and traveling to other towns to watch them play

tennis, softball, baseball, football, and swim meets. She was known for her unconditional love,

kindness and devotion to her grandchildren, who meant the world to her. Her faithful companion,

Roscoe, was also a constant source of joy and happiness. Shirley leaves a legacy of love and

devotion to her family and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lillian Ratcliffe, brother Gerald and

sisters Louise and Chris and granddaughter Brittany Leach.
