Obituary for Sonya Ozell Cummins
Sonya Ozell (Ratliff) Cummins, 91, Hollis, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Harmon Memorial Hospital.
Sonya was born on June 14, 1933, in Hollis, Oklahoma to Tom and Essie (Copeland) Ratliff. She grew up in Hollis and graduated from Hollis High School with the Class of 1951. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Dickie Cummins, and the two were wed on June 3, 1951. To this union would come almost 74 years of memories. Sonya followed her husband as the Army would send them to Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Riley, Kansas. After Dickie's discharge, the couple would move to Okmulgee and Snyder, Texas. They made their final move to Hollis, which was always Home. Sonya worked for the Hollis News for a brief stint but was a legal secretary for Mike Warren's Law Firm for several years before retiring. After her retirement, Sonya owned and operated Rainbow Lane Day Care.
Sonya loved people and being around them. For a number of years, she wrote the skits for the Hee-Haw Show for the Black Eyed Pea Festival. She enjoyed watching her Oklahoma City Thunder and was a member of the Church of Christ. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, working in her flower bed, and playing board games and card games. She had a soft spot for her cats and would take them on the many family camping trips. Sonya treasured her family, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them and going to whatever event she could to watch them.
Her parents; two brothers, Charlie and George Ratliff; and a sister, Tommie Scott, preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dickie; three daughters, Dana Southall and husband, David, Kara Rodriguez and husband, Paul, and Gala Foster and husband, Ricky; her grandchildren, Jenna Dodson and husband, Denney, Reece Cunningham and wife, Landee, Matthew Southall, Sommer Prothro and husband, Mike, Ashlei Stierlen and husband, Russell, Jessica Willmann and husband, Cameron, Tessa Barlow and husband, Kevin, Bekah Cervantes and husband, Zarick, Dain Foster and wife, Deanna, and Caitlin Foster; her great grandchildren, Hailey, Hunter, Baylor, Gabriel, Luke, Jace, Harper, Braxton, Poppy, Lincoln, Nessa, Mark, Oxley, Wrenley, and Veston; a sister, Shirley Baker; and two very special friends, Nicky and Donna Boone.
The funeral home will be open on Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 1:00 - 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Tutten officiating.
