Obituary for Sue A. Winch
Sue A. Ellison Mires Winch, 86, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024 in Altus, OK surrounded by her loving daughters after a short illness. Sue Ellison was born in Craig, Missouri on January 17th, 1938 to Henry and Martha Ellison. She graduated from Maitland High School in 1937 and went on to attend Northwest Missouri State and St. Joseph Teachers College. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Mires, on June 16, 1957, at Maitland Christian Church. Sue and Charlie made their home in northwest Missouri and had four daughters. They spent their time farming, ranching, and watching their daughters rodeo across the country. Business opportunities led the Mires family to move south, spending time in Nixa, Missouri and later, Whitesboro, Texas. In 1992, Charlie passed away. In the early 1980's, Sue took a position with Walmart while living in Nixa, Missouri. She later transferred to Sherman, Texas where she was a department manager and then became the District Secretary. She met and fell in love with Walter Winch. The two married in 1995 in Durant, Ok. They spent many happy years together living on the farm in Achille, OK and traveling to many beautiful destinations. Walt passed away in 2017. Sue then moved to Altus, OK to live closer to her children. She spent her last years traveling with her girls and hosting family gatherings. She was always sure to share her wit, sense of humor, and matter of fact personality without a filter. She always kept everyone on their toes wondering what she would say or do next.

Sue is survived by her daughters Cristy Smith and husband, Mike of Edmond, OK, Lesa Arthaud of Maryville, Missouri, Cindy Vinyard and husband, Sam, of Altus, OK, and Melanie Hansard and husband, Justin, of Nocona, TX. After marrying Walter, she gained two more daughters. Sherry Wilthers and husband, Tom, of Achille, OK and Susan Chavez of Anna, TX. Sue was always proud to talk about her grandchildren Abby Minyen and husband, Jake, Chance Clement and wife, Chelsea, Holly Cronk and husband, Robert, Charlcey Plummer and husband, Keith, Carson Vinyard, Kinley, Kooper and Kambell Hansard, George Wilthers and wife, Chris, Russell Wilthers and Brea Erwin, Dana Manuel and husband, Korey, and Kayla Sisemore and husband, Brandon. Sue was blessed with several great grandchildren as well. Jack, Chanleigh, Ellie, and Jesse Clement, Chase, Andrew, and Charlotte Cronk, Helen and Hazel Plummer, Wally Sisemore, and Trey Wilthers. Sisters in law, Jane Ellison and brother-in-law, Rich Mires and wife, Mary and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Mires, husband, Walter Winch, parents Henry and Martha Ellison, brothers Leland "Sonny" and Gary Ellison. Son in laws Del Clement and Bill Arthaud.

Sue left her family some words of wisdom. To enjoy life with your families and not to sweat the small stuff, this too shall pass. There was nothing that brought her more joy than spending time with her girls and family.

A special thank you from the family to the Golden Girls and their beautiful friendships. Thank you to Hospice of Jackson County and her special nurse, Tellie and Chaplin Erin.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Steven E. Booker Foundation PO Box 184 Altus, Oklahoma 73522 or the First United Methodist Church 5400 West Main Street, Durant, Oklahoma 74701.

Private family services will be held at a later date in Achille, Oklahoma.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
