Susie Young, 59, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, in her home surrounded by those who loved her. She leaves behind her husband of almost 40 years, Randy Young, her daughter, Amanda Hayes and husband Chris, and her son, Cody Young and wife Natalie both of Altus, OK; two precious grandchildren, Asher (5) and Sawyer (2), who were both her whole world; her mother, Pat Beach, brothers, Monty Beach and Gary Beach (wife Jima) and one sister, Barbie Allen (husband Jim) and numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lynn Beach and her sister in law, Kathy Scalf.
Susie was born on November 12, 1959, in Altus, OK. She attended Southside High School and was a part of the Red Devils Basketball team. Susie married her high school sweetheart on December 9, 1979, at Southside Baptist Church. Susie worked for the Altus Times, the Department of Human Services and then spent 23 years working for Altus Public Schools before she retired in 2014.
Susie was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Altus. There with some of her closest friends she and Randy taught first grade sunday school for over 20 years.
Susie loved Jesus. For most of their lives her kids remember her waking up early to sit in her closet and read her bible. She loved her family. She spent countless hours on the lake with Randy (even if she was just there for the tan). Throughout her life you’d find her at every dance recital, baseball game, choir concert and whatever other event her kids and nieces and nephews were playing in. She loved her grandbabies more than anything and spent most of her final years with them right by her side. Finally, she loved her friends. Some of her favorite memories included many of those friends, a Benny’s pizza and a Diet Dr Pepper.
The family would like to especially thank the staff of JCMH Hospice along with Cindy Wakeman, Kayla Carlisle and MacKenzie Briscoe for their love and care for Susie in her final days. It meant more to our family than we can ever express. The family was able to grant Susie’s wishes by donating her brain to the Garrison Brain Bank, which serves to understand the origins of neurodegenerative diseases and eventually improve the treatment and care of patients with dementia. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to the GIA-Brain Bank, 3601 4th Street/MS: 9424, Lubbock, Texas 79430.
