Obituary for Sybil Daphine Holman
Sybil H. Holman, 88, of Oklahoma City, long time Altus resident, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2009. She was born in Fletcher, Oklahoma April 29, 1921, to Raymond and Pearl Harrel. She attended Elgin Public Schools, graduating as Salutatorian and then attending Cameron University, graduating with an Associates Degree. She married James H. Holman, the love of her life, in Lawton, Oklahoma on December 26, 1944.
Sybil was a dedicated member of First United Methodist Church where she served on various committees and enjoyed doing the flower arrangements for Sunday services for many years. Sybil was active in Garden Club, Aldonian Club, and Erolethian. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. In later years, she and her husband, Jim, enjoyed traveling and seeing many foreign countries. Most of all, Sybil was a devoted wife, loving and caring mother and grandmother who always put her family first and took great pride in all of their accomplishments.
Sybil was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Wilma Stephenson, and two brothers, Kenneth and Grant Harrel.
She is survived by sons, Jim and wife Angie Holman of Oklahoma City, Jon and wife Frances Holman of Altus, and Jay and wife Melisa Holman of Edmond; grandchildren, Joanna and husband David Pasnau, Oklahoma City, Jason and wife Jenni Holman, Tyler, Texas, Robert and wife Jenny Holman, Fort Worth, Texas, Colin and wife Erin Holman, Oklahoma City, Parker Holman, New York City, New York, Hayley Holman, Dallas, Texas, Sunshine Sais, Season and husband Troy Kissinger, Summer and husband Matthew Dowdy, and Spring Holman, Edmond; great-grandchildren, Katharine Pasnau, Lizzie and Caroline Holman, Henry Holman, Daegan, Sydney, and Addison Sais, Nathan, Maximus, and Moxie Kissinger, Maddix and Mazen Dowdy, and Berkley Holman, Edmond. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, close friends, and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the capital improvements fund at the First United Methodist Church in Altus.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening, November 29, 2009, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Services for Sybil Holman will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 30, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend David Player officiating. Interment will be held in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
