Obituary for Tammy Latoya Jefferson
Tammy Jefferson, Lawton resident, passed from this life on June 18, 2022, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was 48 years old at the time of her transition.
Tammy was born in Altus, Oklahoma on April 10, 1974 to her parents Bob Fields and Doris Mae Jefferson. She was raised and educated in Altus, Oklahoma. While in school, Tammy was active in basketball and track. Following graduation, she attended the Southwestern Oklahoma Job Corps where she studied brick masonry. Later, she completed a Certified Dietary Manager program.
In her early work career, Tammy worked at Val's Restaurant and at the Park Lane Nursing Facility in Altus. Mid-career she was employed at Cattlemen's Restaurant, Fort Sill DFAC Dining Facility, and Willow Park Healthcare Facility. Tammy found her dream job and worked traveling across the United States as a Dietary Services Manager.
On as personal level, Tammy grew up in the Church of God In Christ #1 and the Church of God in Christ #2. In her early Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she was involved in the youth ministry and Vacation Bible School. Tammy was an avid researcher. She served as a Historian/Genealogist for the Snowden Family. She was instrumental in rediscovering the Snowden family lineage and teaching the family about its history which had been lost for generations.
Family was the most important thing to Tammy. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and simply being " Granna". Tammy was also passionate about cooking. She loved bringing people together for great food and fellowship. She was a master at weaving food, culture, and history into her storytelling that satisfied hearts, minds and tummies. She would give her last to the people she held dear to her heart. In addition, music was one of Tammy's passions. She would sing her heart out! On top of traveling and visiting new places, Tammy was an avid reader. The Harry Potter series was her all-time favorite book series. "I know Why the Caged Bird Sings" a novel by Maya Angelou, was her favorite book.
Tammy was a "Mom" to many in her community, no matter where she lived. She had a gift for mentoring young people. Tammy fought breast cancer like a champion and was blessed to have connected with many other cancer warriors. She was active in Breast Cancer Support Groups and found solace in supporting others along their cancer journey. She met and embraced a highly diverse group of friends as she traveled the country on job assignments. Her charisma, love for all, and concern for others will never be forgotten.
