Tamye Suzanne Rowland McMinn, a radiant soul whose life was defined by boundless love and unwavering devotion to her family and friends, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Altus, Oklahoma on April 3, 2025. Born on January 17, 1959, to Bedford Forrest Rowland Sr. and Mable Arvella Talley Rowland, Tamye's roots run deep in the community she cherished all her life.
From an early age, Tamye's heart was anchored in faith. At just 13 years old, she was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church alongside her dearest friend, Theresa Jameson- a bond that would endure a lifetime. A woman of deep faith, Tamye loved the Lord with all her heart. Sundays were sacred, filled with worship on the television and gospel music filled her car and her soul.
A proud graduate of Altus High School's Class of 1977, she furthered her education at Western Oklahoma State College, embodying a spirit of curiosity and dedication in all she pursued. Tamye's nurturing soul shone brightly in her careers, first at Furr's cafeteria and later with Altus Public Schools, where she touched countless lives before retiring. Yet, her greatest calling was a devoted caretaker- first to her beloved husband, Mike Hurley, whom she married on September 1, 2000, and tenderly cared for until his passing in 2008. Later, she embraced love again, marrying Richard McMinn on March 17, 2011, and standing faithfully by his side until his death in 2023. Her final caregiving was with her great niece and nephews, the Johnson children, who brought her so much joy and love. Her love was steadfast, and her loyalty was unshakeable.
She found great joy in cheering on her family in all their events and activities, but nothing compared to the pride and joy she had in her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed fellowship with the Retired Ladies Luncheon Group, lively family game nights, watching true crime tv, laughter over margaritas, and fun trips to casinos. Her love was a constant presence in their lives.
Tamye was preceded in death by her husbands, Mike Hurley, and Richard McMinn; her parents, Bedford Forrest Sr. and Mable Rowland; her brother Bedford Forrest Jr.; her sister-in-law Marcia Rowland; her sister, Lila Daphne Hughes; and nephew Wade Crossland.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved most: her son, John Forrest Weathers and wife Christina; her daughter Shawnna Mauree Pence and husband Jerimy; her brothers Jasper Rowland and wife Shirley, Lynn Rowland and wife Pat, and Steve Rowland and wife Barbie, her pride and joy grandchildren, Kailea Ramirez and husband Jordan, Hunter Pence and wife Saylor, Brayden Weathers, Baylee Pence, and Emily Weathers; her great-grandchildren, Cadence and Bryson Ramirez; her best friend Theresa Jameson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were blessed to her light.
Tamye's life was a testament to love in its purest form-selfless, enduring, honest, and full of grace.
Though she has left this earthly home, her spirit remains a guiding light for all who were fortunate to know her.
