Obituary for Theresa Jewell Abernethy
Theresa Jewell Abernethy, age 65, longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021 at her home in Oklahoma City.
Theresa was born in Crisfield, Maryland on August 28, 1955 to her parents Mike Loyd Rowe and Myrtle Lee (Butler) Rowe. At an early age Theresa moved to Burns Flat where her father was stationed at the Burns Flat Air Force Base and later moved to Altus. Theresa started her working career as a fashion runway model in Oklahoma City. A few years later Theresa owned and operated the Altus Wholesale Store and Snapshop Photo. On August 28, 1999, on her birthday, Theresa married the love of her life, Gary Don Abernethy in Las Vegas, Nevada. Theresa and Gary considered their marriage a treasure and they have been happily married for over twenty-two years. Later, Theresa owned and operated the J&N Frame and Body Shop in Altus and she retired in 2006. Teresa loved to travel with Gary. They often went to islands in the Caribbean and short trips throughout the United States. She loved going anywhere near the ocean or the lake. She enjoyed visiting casinos and finding the best restaurants to dine at. She kept her house beautiful and always waited up for Gary to come home from long days on the farm. Teresa never met a stranger and she truly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She always put the needs of others before herself. She loved the Lord and shared her faith with everyone she knew.
Theresa is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Mike Loyd Rowe, Jr.; infant sister, Ann Tonette Rowe; and mother-in-law, Glenda Abernethy. Theresa is survived by her husband, Gary Don Abernethy of their home in Altus; her daughter, Shelly Dawn Thacker and fiancé Jessee Rhoden of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; her sister, Margaret Jackson and husband David of Abilene, Texas; two grandchildren, Kyra Elisse Thacker of Altus; and Ethan Zander Dunn of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two great grandsons, Carter and Major; father-in-law, Joe Abernethy of Hollis; brother-in-law, Darrell Abernethy and wife Janet of Altus; sister-in-law, Sonya Hinds and husband Mark of Gunter, Texas; nieces, Blair Abernethy Perez and her daughter, Kyla Perez; Kimberly Smith and husband Landon and their daughter, Linley; as well as numerous other family members and many friends.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Sunday evening, June 20, 2021 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, June 21, 2021 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel in Altus with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating.
Interment will follow at the Louis Cemetery, South of Gould, OK - 3 Miles West of the Bethel Store.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus.
