Thomas R. Overstreet, 61, of Greenville, North Carolina, passed away on June 28, 2025, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Born in Altus, Oklahoma, and raised in Tarboro, North Carolina, Thomas graduated from Tarboro High School in 1982 and later earned a degree in Biology from East Carolina University. He spent most of his professional life working for Abbott Laboratories and Pfizer in Rocky Mount, where he made lasting contributions and friendships.
Thomas loved to explore. He had an adventurous soul that took him on memorable journeys, including sailing trips through the Caribbean and road trips across the U.S. to places like the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. A weather and nature enthusiast, he was an amateur photographer with a keen eye for capturing birds, wildlife, and lightening flashes. He was also an avid sports fan and proudly supported the ECU Pirates and Oklahoma Sooners teams.
Thomas had a wide circle of friends who will remember him as a kind and goodhearted man with a warm, youthful spirit. He had a unique and infectious laugh with a playful sense of humor that lifted the hearts of those around him. A true lover of life and learning, Thomas had a deep appreciation for science fiction and fantasy literature. And a passion about music- especially the bands Rush and Yes.
Here's an excerpt from "The Analog Kid", a Rush song that he once said he identified with:
Too many hands on my time
Too many feelings —
Too many things on my mind
When I leave I don’t know
What I’m hoping to find
When I leave I don’t know
What I’m leaving behind…
Thomas is survived by his mother, Sue Overstreet of Altus, Oklahoma; uncle Larry Bennett of Altus, Oklahoma; Aunt Thaxine and husband Mike McGee; niece Suzanne; nephew Jason of Georgia; best friend David Herring; special friend Paula Edwards; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
