Obituary for Thomas Sanchez
Mr. Thomas Sanchez, age 55, of 905 Asa Lee and prominent businessman, died Friday morning at the Oklahoma City Veterans Hospital.
Rosary will be at 8:00 P.M., Sunday night at Lowell Memorial Chapel. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, officiated by the Reverend Donal Moore. Burial will be in Altus Cemetery under direction of Lowell Funeral Home.
Born December 6th, 1923 at LaFeria, TX, he was married in 1942 to Margarita Ledesma, who survives of the home. He came to Altus in 1960 and established the Sanchez Masonry Construction Co., which will be continued under his name. A man who valued the future of youth and his community in 1958 was voted the most cooperating father of the San Antonio Little League Organization. After coming to Altus in 1960 he sponsored, on an annual basis, a Little League Baseball Team, built and donated construction of the existing concession stand at Cole Heights Park, had committed his company's future services for the masonry repair of the Altus City Auditorium, was a past member of Altus High School Bulldog Boosters Club, past member of the Fraternal Order of Police, a veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW and an active member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife: five sons, Thomas Jr., Raymundo, Dennis, Aldo and Larry Sanchez, all of Altus; four daughters, Mary Jane Betancourt, Mary Elva Campos and Gloria Ann Sanchez all of Altus and Mary Christine Cullipher of Sherril, AR; one half-brother, Onesimo Zortez of Mayflower, CA; nine grandchildren.
