Obituary for Timothy Hooker Mahan
Timothy Hooker Mahan, age 24, of Norman, Oklahoma, formerly of Altus, was killed Sunday afternoon while participating as a competitor in the Tahlehina Skyline Bicycle Road Race near Poteau, OK.
Tim was born December 10th, 1959 in Fredericksburg, TX, and moved to Altus when he was three-years-old where he attended Altus Public Schools, graduating from Altus High School in 1978. Tim was active in band and was selected as an All-State musician in his Junior and Senior years. In his Senior year, Tim was chosen to participate in McDonald's All-American Band.
Tim attended West Texas State University, Canyon, Texas on a music scholarship. He also attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford. In 1980, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma, majoring in Physical Sciences. He graduated from OU in 1982 with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Secondary Education in Biological and Physical Sciences. He taught the 9th and 10th grades at Norman Central Middle High School, from fall 1982 until his death.
Tim was active in music and an Honor Student during high school and college years. He was a member of the St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Norman.
Timothy is the son of the Reverend and Mrs. James L. Mahan of Guymon, OK, formerly of Altus. Additional survivors include: Elizabeth Mahan Wallace of Altus, Brenda Mahan Lowell of Altus, James R. Mahan of College Station, TX and Thomas C. Mahan of Guymon, OK.
The family is establishing a memorial fund at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Altus.
Services are pending with Lowell Funeral Home.
