Obituary for Treva Othel Carrick
Treva Carrick, age 94 of Hollis, Oklahoma went to her heavenly home Mother"s Day, May 11, 2014 at Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Hollis, Oklahoma with Pastor Don Altom officiating. Interment will be in the Fairmount Cemetery at Hollis, Oklahoma under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis, Oklahoma.
Treva was born on December 16, 1919 in the Dryden Community of Harmon County to Joe and Ruth (Hudson) McClendon. She attended Dryden Schools until her senior year. She graduated from Ron High School in 1940. She was salutatorian of her senior class and loved to play sports.
On June 25, 1939 Treva married Willie D. (Bill) Carrick in a double ring ceremony with Hugh and Myrtle Metcalf at Mangum, Oklahoma. Treva and Bill had two daughters Tiajuana Sue Roles and Patti Rippetoe.
She was a homemaker and for 25 years worked as a salesclerk for Taylor"s Department Store. After she retired from Taylor"s, she worked at Renate"s, The Ladybug, and did alterations for the public. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and the 1941 Sorosis Club. She enjoyed playing dominoes with a group of ladies they called "The Wild Bunch." She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Treva was very talented with her hands. She did all kinds of crafts including sewing, cross-stitching, crocheting, and embroidering. Some of her favorite past times included cooking, gardening, traveling, receiving and sending cards and letters, watching sports on television especially OU, and most importantly spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Tiajuana Sue Roles of Weatherford, Oklahoma and Patti Rippetoe and husband Gary of Hollis, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Liz Benson and husband Brad, Mick Matheson, Steve Matheson and fianc"e MaryAnn Cunningham, Leslee Cunningham and husband Steve, Belinda Thacker and husband Brad, Clint Roles, Shannon Kardokus and husband Merl, and Robert Fulton and wife Jamae; thirteen great-grandchildren, Blythe Oberst and husband Keaton, Joshua Benson, Matt Matheson, Ryan Cunningham, Drew Cunningham, Kaylee Cunningham, Lauren Roles, Logan Roles, Carson Kardokus, Cooper Kardokus, Creed Kardokus, Finley Fulton, and Daelyn Fulton; two great-great grandchildren, Henry Oberst and Eleanor Oberst. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws Zoie McClendon and Mid Scott along with many other family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Ruth (Hudson) McClendon; husband Willie D. (Bill) Carrick; daughter Barbara Gaye Matheson; one sister Edrie Lackey; two brothers Vern McClendon and Joe E. McClendon.
Memorials may be made in memory of Treva to the First United Methodist Church in Hollis, OK.
