Obituary for Uldene Cross
Uldene Cross, age 102, of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, April 19, 2003, at English Village Manor. Grave side services have been scheduled for 1 pm Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at the Altus City Cemetery with Rev. Doug Burr officiating. Lowell-Tims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Uldene was born April 7, 1902, in their prairie home outside of Altus, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Garrett and Ella Samantha (Jones) Pitts. On November 5, 1920, Uldene and John B. Cross were united in marriage at Altus. They enjoyed over 66 happy years together before he preceded her in death on October 28, 1987.
Mrs. Cross was a member of the Midway Methodist Church for several years before moving her membership to the First United Methodist Church of Altus.
She was a LPN at Altus Air Force Base, for Dr. Mabrey, and for private duty nursing for several years before going to work for Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She retired form the hospital in 1974 after 24 years of service.
Uldene was a smart, courageous lady. She never believed any job was too big to attempt. She loved cooking, sewing and gardening. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one daughter, Mavis Cross; one sister, Nora Tawater; and five brothers, Ruby Pitts, Eugene Pitts, John Pitts, Calvin Pitts, and an infant brother.
She is survived by two daughters, Ernestine Morris of Baytown, Texas, and Alvetta Morris of Kingwood Texas; five grandsons, Michael Morris, Darrell Morris, Dwayne Morris, David Morris, and Keith Morris; one sister, Mrs Ople Ann Nance of Lamesa, Texas; 12 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
