Veda Ruth Watanabe, age 57, of Oklahoma City, passed away Monday morning, March 9, 2015, at her residence, in Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Watanabe was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on October 17, 1957, to Johnny Miller and Barbara Ruth Willis. After graduating from Cement, Oklahoma High School, Ruth joined the United Sates Army where she proudly served her country for twelve years before being honorably discharged. Ruth was proud of being in the first group of women who entered and completed the men"s basic training and later appeared on 60 Minutes with the accomplishment. After leaving the Army, Ruth returned to the Anadarko area where she was employed at a Carpet factory, the Monroe Shock Factory and Delta Faucet Company. Ruth, a very driven person, then decided to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and after completing her training, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she served a number of years as an ER nurse until her health began to fail, moving back to Oklahoma City where she retired.
Preceded in death by her father, Johnny Miller; her stepfather, Arthur Coburn; two brothers, Johnny Miller and Steve Miller, she is survived by her mother, Barbara Coburn of Granite; one daughter, Sandra Lynn Nobuko Watanabe and wife Aliva of Arizona; one sister, Felica McConnell and husband Malcom of Alex, Oklahoma; one brother, David Deas and wife Salah of Granite; three nieces, Hannah Deas, Jessica Edwards and Michelle Ruddy; four nephews, James Deas, David Miller, Mark Miller and Johnny Miller and wife Carol and daughter Summer along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Veda Ruth Watanabe will be at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2015, at the Granite First Baptist Church with Pastor David Hogg officiating. Interment will follow at the Granite City Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home in Granite.
