Velma Olive-Staton, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in Georgetown Texas.
Mrs. Staton was born on a farm near Gould, Oklahoma on May 23, 1922, to Claud Irving and Mertie (Nesmith) Boyett. She was raised and went to school in the Russell community, graduating from Centralvue High School in 1940. She married Joseph M. Olive, and was widowed in 1995 after 53 years of marriage. She is survived by a daughter, Ruth Caldwell and husband Michael; and a son Phyllip Olive and wife Susan. She is also survived by four grandsons; Matthew Olive and wife Amanda, Michael Olive, Troy Pate and Trent Caldwell and three great grandchildren.
In 2002, she married Robert Staton, of Mangum, and was again widowed in 2003. She is survived by members of his family; as she loved them as her own: sons Dale Staton and wife Carolyn; Dan Staton and wife Debbie and Betsy Staton. She is survived by ten grandchildren, Trent Staton and wife Kimberly, Dustin Staton, Wendy Pryor and husband Brad, Misty Vairma and husband Brandon, Tory Staton, Jesse Staton, Tara Coffman and husband Randy, Shawn Graham, Courtney Weeaks and Heather Graham; seventeen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren on the Staton side. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Austin Boyett; a grandson, Todd Pate; and son, Steve Staton (husband of Betsy).
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Mangum and was a faithful and active member of many churches throughout her life, wherever she lived.
Funeral services for Velma Olive-Staton will be at 10 a.m., Monday, April 30, 2012, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
