Obituary for Velma Robison
Velma Shields Robison, 88, lifetime resident of Altus passed away Tuesday, February 5th, 2013, in Altus, Oklahoma. She was born January 10, 1925, in Altus to Clarence Shields, Sr. and Ola Simpson Shields. On June 11, 1944, she married Guy Robison in Altus. He preceded her in death February 11, 1978.
Velma worked as a secretary at Western Oklahoma State College in the Flying Department and Child Development Center, but she also took great pride in being a homemaker to her family. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Methodist Women and the Silver Belles. Velma loved reading and growing flowers, especially iris and was a member of the Iris Club for many years. She adored her family and devoted time and love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bridge and dancing at the nursing homes with the Silver Bells. People in the community knew Spring was coming when they saw Velma riding her bike. She is going to be sorely missed by the many family and friends she leaves behind.
Velma is survived by four children, Rhana True and husband Jim of Norman, OK, Kathy Bayers and husband Jim of Altus, OK, Kevin Robison and wife Kim of Sugarland, TX, and Mark Robison and wife Jana of Midlothian, TX; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guy; one daughter, Patricia Canada; a granddaughter, Lisa Wadsack; grandson, Greg Canada; and her brother, Dr. Clarence Shields, Jr.
Services have been scheduled for 2:00 pm, Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Johnny Morrow officiating. The family will have a private burial. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family will receive guests at Lowell-Tims on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:30. Memorials can be made in Velma Robison's name to the First United Methodist Church Pipe Organ Fund, the WOSC Foundation or the charity of your choice.
