Obituary for Vera Marie Smith
Marie Smith, 88, of Altus, went to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, September 28, 2011. She passed away at the English Village Manor Nursing Home in Altus.
Marie was born March 12, 1923, to Samuel J. and Estella (Blagg) Hewett in Cego, Falls County, Texas.
She married George Wheeler Smith on February 2, 1949, in Altus, Oklahoma. She and her husband owned and operated White Swan Laundry in Altus for many years before they retired. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1995. Marie was a faithful member of the Southside Baptist Church in Altus for over fifty-five years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her precious great-grandson, Joshua Daniel Graham, one brother, Cleo Hewett, and two sisters, Gladys Martin and Beatrice Turner.
Survivors are her son, Herman Graham and wife Ann of Altus; two grandsons, Eric Graham and wife Kim of Jenks, Oklahoma, and Scott Graham and wife Eilena of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; one great-grandson, Justin Graham of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one great-granddaughter, Abby Graham of Sapulpa, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 30, 2011, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Funeral Services for Marie Smith will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011, at the Southside Baptist Church in Altus,where she had been a member for 55 years, with Reverend Jason Duree officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
