Vernie Veree (Roach) Howard, 96, of the Headrick community, passed away Saturday, May 21st at the home of her daughter, Martha Sauer, in Weatherford, OK.
Vernie Veree Roach was born May 05, 1920 in Blair, OK to William R. (Bill) and Zelda Mae (Burdick) Roach. Vernie grew up in the Warren community and graduated from Warren High School in May 1938. She attended Oklahoma A&M College majoring in Home Economics and Physical Education. She married Kacy C. Howard on September 20, 1941 at Blair. They made their home in the Warren/Altus community where they were engaged in farming and other business interests. They shared 55 wonderful years. Vernie will be remembered as a caring primary Sunday school teacher, a 4-H Leader, Friend, Apple Dumplings, Cinnamon Rolls, Garage Sales Collector, a welcoming home for all strays, she will also be remembered as a good listener.
Vernie was preceded in death by K. C. her husband and best friend, January 25, 1996; brother Sam Roach, and sisters Rolene Roach Worbes and Silvers Roach Yates. Vernie is survived by four children and their spouses: Lois Howard and Waymon Montgomery, Bartlesville, OK; Charlie and Johnette Howard, Blair, OK; Martha and Steve Sauer, Weatherford, OK; and Ola Mae (Zack) Howard and Jim Turpin, Frederick, MD; her grandchildren: Bron Howard and wife Shellie, Headrick, OK; Kaycee Howard, Flower Mound, TX; and Chris Sauer, Lubbock, TX; and her precious great-grandchildren: Sara Howard and Charlie Timothy Howard. She is also survived by a very dear sister-in-law, Betty Howard Doane and husband Ben Doane of Lawton, OK; very special Howard and Roach nieces and nephews and many loving and caring friends. The family would like to thank Barbara Ogan, Fern Randolph, and Twila Kohen who helped care for Vernie during her last years, and Beverley McKinley whose friendship was valued throughout the years.
The family will greet friends at visitation Monday, May 23, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 24th at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Jim Brown under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
