Vernon Harris, 81, passed away on July 16, 2007, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma.
Vernon was born on September 17, 1926, to Jerry and Ethel Harris in Tatums, Oklahoma, where he attended and graduated school. He met and married his wife Cassie Mae Harris of fifty years in Altus, Oklahoma. He attended Pilgrim Baptist in Church in Tatums, Oklahoma , and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Altus.
Vernon lived in Altus for over fifty years where he worked at the Altus Compress for over twenty years. He also worked as a farmer and a cook. His favorite interest were watching westerns on TV., fishing, playing his guitar, walking and visiting his friends and family.
Vernon is survived by four sons; Vernon Harris Jr. and wife Barbara of Wichita, Kansas; Daniel Harris and wife Teresi of Wichita, Kansas; A.H. Harris of Altus, Ok. and Benny Lee Harris of Wichita, Kansas; six daughters Cassie Graham and husband Carl of Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Pansy Lenard and husband John of Altus Oklahoma; Daisy Fleming and spouse William Cherry of Altus Oklahoma; Vivian Felder and husband Arthur of Birmingham, Alabama; Virginia Washington and spouse Sylvester Branch of Altus, Oklahoma; Winona Harris and spouse Kirk Hall of Altus Oklahoma;
Thirty grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, one sister Savannah McGill of Tatums, Oklahoma; two brothers, Ben Eddie Harris of Caruthersville, Mo. and Grady Harris of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and his Macedonia Baptist Church family and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A special thanks to his favorite nurse "Jerri Dawn Spinks".
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years Cassie Mae Harris in 1996, his mother and father; a daughter and two sons and five brothers.
